Previous Named Storms
The following major storms were named prior to the Name Our Storm campaign, which has helped raise awareness of the threat and impact of severe weather before it hits. The table below provides the observed extremes during each named storm from the main (synoptic) stations. There is a link on the storm name to the statement, which gives more details on the observations and impacts for Ireland.
Definitions
- Sustained wind speeds (average (10-minute mean) land-wind speeds) are shaded according to the Beaufort land-wind scale Near Gale Gale Stong Gale Storm Violent Storm Hurricane .
- Peak impact date was based upon the date of highest gust observed during the event.
- Gust refer to average (3-second mean) land-wind speeds, stored in database as knots.
- MSLP refers to hourly mean sea level pressure (hPa).
- Highest Individual Wave (m) was the height from trough to crest.
- All land-observations are daily (00-00 UTC) from the primary (synoptic) national meteorological station network.
