Terms and Conditions:

The purpose of an official Weather Report for legal purposes is to give an expert opinion based on the available meteorological information as to the probable weather conditions in a location for a specific time period. It includes details on rainfall, temperature, wind, visibility and any other requested weather type. Weather Reports are not produced for locations outside of the Republic of Ireland.

Charges:

The fee charged is determined by the number of hours required by a Meteorologist to complete a report. It takes a minimum of one hour to complete a report required for a period less than 24 hours and an additional 1/2 hour for each subsequent day. A 50% surcharge applies to all urgent requests. Information on 'Charges for the supply of climatological infomation' and 'Legal Reports' are available online here.

Liability for charges:

The person/company requesting a report or court attendance is liable for the cost and payment must be made not later than 30 days after the invoice date. The use to which the report is put and whether/when/how much the requesting individual/company is eventually paid for their services does not affect this liability.

Response Times:

Ideally, reports are provided within 2 to 4 working weeks of the receipt of a request. However, demand for reports vary and sometimes can take longer.

Urgent Requests:

Urgent reports usually can be provided within three working days on payment of a 50% surcharge.

Disclaimers:

Confidentiality:

Met Éireann treats requests for reports in confidence. It occasionally happens that a report may be requested by both parties involved in a case arising from the same incident. In this case, the requested reports will be provided without reference to each other. Any person/company requesting that a Met Éireann Meteorologist attend court or be on standby to attend is directly liable for the charges involved. This is an arrangement made directly with Met Éireann and payment is due without reference to the outcome or timescale of the case.
