Ireland lay in a moderate to fresh westerly airflow generated by an anticyclone of 1028 Pa centred over the Azores. Fronts associated with a depression of 986hPa centred over Iceland cleared east across the country by the morning. Storm Floris tracked past the north and northwest coast later in the night. The morning's rain, drizzle and mist gradually cleared eastwards, giving way to hazy sunshine countrywide. Cloud thickened over the west and the south by afternoon, bringing patchy drizzle to western regions and spreading to the east/northeast. As evening fell, Storm Floris approached, bringing heavy rain and strong winds - particularly across northern areas and western/northwestern coasts.

Monday 4 August 2025 Storm Floris
Ireland lay in a strong to gale force southerly airflow, generated by Storm Floris of 991 hPa, centred approximately 125 nautical miles to the northwest of Erris Head. Storm Floris rapidly deepened on Monday morning and tracked to the north of Ireland. Its associated weather fronts tracked eastwards across Ireland. The day began with strong winds and heavy rain, as gusty gales from Storm Floris moved into western and northern coasts. During the morning, the rain pushed eastwards while winds gradually eased, though northern areas remained blustery into the afternoon under scattered showers and fleeting sunshine. By evening, the tempest calmed further, leaving behind a night of clear spells and isolated showers still lively in the northwest, where some downpours turned heavy after dusk.
