A showery trough moved northwestwards over the country. Rain affected parts of the East, West, and South during the night, clearing later. Mist developed during the morning. Rain approached the east coast during the morning and moved northeastwards over the country. The rain died out by early evening. Sunshine was recorded at Malin Head and the southern regions.

Clear spells developed in Western areas in the afternoon, followed by scattered showers. Rain continued northeastwards into the evening, with heavy bursts at times. The day was predominantly sunny, although hazy sunshine persisted in some areas throughout. Record-breaking shaded air temperatures for April were observed at several weather stations. Light, isolated showers occurred in the Northwest, accompanied by generally light south to southeasterly breezes. During the night, cloud cover thickened in the Northwest and extended southeastwards, resulting in patchy outbreaks of light rain or drizzle across parts of the northwest and north.
