A moderate to strong west to southwest airflow covered Ireland, generated by an anticyclone, centred approximately 530 nautical miles southwest of Valentia, and a complex area of low pressure, to the northwest of Norway. A frontal wave lay to the north of the country. Moderate to strong southwesterly winds, particularly along the south and west coasts, with gusts. Mostly overcast across the country, with some breaks in the clouds at times, and occasional patches of light rain, drizzle and mist, particularly in western and northern areas, moved into the northwest towards the night.

Ireland was under a strengthening westerly airflow from an area of high pressure to the southwest. A low-pressure system in the mid-Atlantic tracked northeastwards towards Ireland while intensifying. The day was blustery, with outbreaks of rain across parts of the north and west. Other areas remained mostly dry, with only isolated patches of drizzle and occasional sunny spells. Southwest winds were fresh to strong and gusty, easing to moderate to fresh during the afternoon. Winds picked up again in the evening as rain gradually spread southeastwards across the country, becoming heavy in places.

A low-pressure system to the northwest of Ireland, with several embedded fronts, slowly moved east. The day was very windy and wet, with rain moving slowly southeastwards across the country. The rain cleared from the north and west during the afternoon but later returned to the west in the evening, leaving only the north dry. Strong winds prevailed throughout, with gusts recorded at most stations.
